What we’ve been up to and what’s coming your way at Elaia
Happy Spring 💐
And just like that, we find ourselves in September. Winter has slipped by, though the chill in the air still insists otherwise. Father’s Day has come and gone and now we’re breathing a little spring air into things, freshening up our beverage lists and menus and sending our team off for a well earned breather before the busy season kicks in.
Winter at Elaia might be considered the quieter time, but truthfully, it’s been anything but. We’ve been busy caring for our loyal locals, welcoming intra and interstate AFL supporters, tinkering with new spirits and cocktails, bringing back some beloved Elaia favourites, wearing our crisp new uniforms, and even embracing AI with our booking service. We’ve sourced exciting Greek wines, welcomed new neighbours to Charles Street, and found moments to really enjoy what made Launceston’s winter so lovely this year.
For me, it was all about the little comforts, hearty food from our kitchen, the heat of the gas woodheater, and being surrounded by the best people, both my team and our wonderful customers. We did it. We got through winter together. And now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and welcome a new season. Fresh ideas, new flavours and the comforting familiarity of all the things you love about Elaia.
Giving Day Thursday 18th September
When Bec from the Clifford Craig Foundation reached out about the LGH Giving Day, I didn’t have to think twice. It’s a 12 hour fundraising effort on Thursday 18th September 8.00am–8.00pm. For every coffee we sell, dine in or takeaway $1 will be donated straight to Giving Day. Even better, every dollar raised will be matched, doubling the impact for our local hospital. Funds raised will go towards much needed equipment and patient care projects on the LGH 'wish list'.
How could we say no? Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of serving so many people connected to the LGH. Families visiting loved ones, patients themselves, and of course the incredible doctors, nurses, and specialists who work tirelessly for our community. We’ve heard countless stories across our tables and being part of this initiative feels like a small but meaningful way to give back.
So next Thursday, if you’re nearby, pop into Elaia for a coffee and know that $1 from your cup is going directly to LGH Giving Day and doubled! And if coffee isn’t your thing, you can always make a direct donation. Every little bit helps.
Spring Spritz
In the spirit of spring and catching up with friends, Aperol is making it easier than ever. Over the next few weeks, Elaia will be part of a promotion where you can shout your friend an Aperol Spritz. Picture this. A sunny afternoon, dips with warm Greek pitta, the buzz of Charles Street and those longer days that practically beg for a spritz in hand. No arm twisting required. It’s the perfect way to kick off the social season. Keep an eye on our socials for all the details as it launches.
Aperol is more than just a drink. It’s a little glass of celebration, vibrant in colour, cheeky, glamorous, indulgent and full of happy times with friends and family. And it’s not something to save just for special occasions. It belongs in everyday moments too, even in our humble outdoor area on Charles Street, winding down after work.

What’s coming your way at Elaia
September is also bringing with it a little treasure trove of new arrivals. Freshly imported Greek wines, cookbooks, and olive oils. I really must get cracking on that olive oil tasting I’ve been promising. With the longer days and warmer weather, I think I’ll finally be inspired to do it. Did you catch our Koumozo Ouzo tastings back in July? They were such a hit on those cold winter nights, so I’ll be taking the same approach with our Greek olive oils. Stay tuned and I’ll keep you posted.
And if you haven’t yet organised your end of year function, whether it’s for work, family or your community group, we still have bookings available. Email me directly at ritsa@elaia.com.au and I’d love to help plan something special for you. In the meantime, you can always browse our menus online.
A little reminder of our kitchen opening hours:
Wednesday to Saturday: 8.00am–8.00pm
Sunday: 9.00am–1.30pm
Mondays and Tuesdays remain our blissful days off (though you may still spot us pottering about in the dark, planning and scheming for the week ahead). The team, meanwhile, claim they’re either “rotting on the couch,” “lifting more than their body weight at the gym,” or “travelling the state.” I’ll let you decide which sounds most likely.
Walk ins are always welcome, but we do encourage bookings for larger groups or during those rainy Launceston days when our cosy indoor space fills quickly. Takeaways are available straight from our kitchen, and for delivery we’re just a tap away on Uber Eats.

Finally, thank you for being part of our Elaia community. I truly love welcoming new faces and seeing familiar faces when I make it out on the floor as it’s always a joy to catch up, share a smile and be reminded why Elaia feels so much like home.
